What I like about 3 season sleeping bags is that they are so versatile that you end up prepared for pretty much any camping adventure without having to worry about being too cold or hot. This type of bag is normally a tad bit more expensive than your standard summer or winter bag, but it does end up being a pretty good value for the money. Plus, you end up only needing this one bed roll for sleeping as it helps you easily adjust to pretty much any temperature that you encounter.
As you are shopping for a good three season sleeping bag, you will notice that there are a lot of brands and models out there. And the prices for this type is usually higher than your standard single season bag. But, do know that you can normally expect one of these 3-season sleeping bags to last you at least 20 years, so it is a great value in the long run.

If you’re planning on buying some new camping gear, then let me share with you my reviews of the top choices that I’ve found so far.
Best 3 Season Sleeping Bags
If you are on a tight budget and looking to buy a good bag with a low price, then your best budget three season sleeping bag option is the Kelty Cosmic 20 Degree Down Sleeping Bag.
Sure, this one is not as great as some of the higher priced models out there, but it really does offer a nice bang for the buck. And Kelty is a great brand – I use their backpacks a lot and would recommend them to anyone.
You can’t do any better than this model when it comes to good three season sleeping bags with a cheap, low price. This one comes in three different sizes (short, regular and long) and prices vary by size.
While this bag is not the most lightweight, it does weigh less than my favorite option listed below, and if you are backpacking or mountain biking with one of these, then the lower the weight, the better it is for your back and shoulders.
It is filled with down, which is great for body temperature versatility and for the environment.
And, it comes with a standard carry sack to stuff it in, which means that you don’t have to buy one separate since it’s already included. So, that is nice for the budget.
Overall, this is a good entry level down sleeping bag that is great for both men and women. In fact, it is even a good three season sleeping bag for kids if you choose the short size version.
My overall top choice has got to the the Sierra Designs DriDown Backcountry Bed 600-Fill 3 Season Sleeping Bag.
It features DriDown technology, which gives you that perfect temperature sweet spot between the down sleeping bags and the synthetic ones. It stays dry longer than those and when it does get wet, it dries faster than the others.
What is really great about this one is that you don’t have to deal with velcro or zippers as it doesn’t have any of that nonsense. Instead, it is designed so that you can tuck and untuck as needed, which keeps you surprisingly warm in the cold weather and cool in the hot weather.
The weight is around 3 pounds, which is about average for a good three-season bag. And when you roll it up to stuff it in your pack, it gets down to a size of 8.5″ x 16″.
Note that it comes with a free stuff sack, which saves you a little money.
Overall, I think this is one of the top three season sleeping bags for both men and women. You can buy it in a regular size or a long size length, which is great for tall guys.
If you prize lightweight over anything else, then the Western Mountaineering Versalite Mummy Sleeping Bag is a good choice.
Unlike the Sierra Designs model above, this one does have a side zipper. You can choose to have it either on the right side or the left side. I think that this one is probably the best three season sleeping bag for tall people, since you can get it in a 6’0″ length or a 6’6″ length option.
With this, you stay warm in the cold as it features 20 oz. of high lofting 850+ goose down for 6″ of loft and a temperature rating of 10 degrees. And as you can see, it features the mummy-style design with a full collar that really seals the warmth in if you’re all zipped up at night.
Shoulder girth for the smaller model is 62-inches, which is great for guys with a husky build.
And the real shining feature here is the weight – just 2.2 pounds total.
These are the best options out there that I have found, but if you are not a fan of any of them then I suggest that you keep shopping. A good place to start is the list of Amazon’s sleeping bags, where you can read reviews from other campers to determine which one will best meet your needs.
